KABUL: Acting Foreign Minister of Afghanistan, Amir Khan Muttaqi, met with Mirdef bin Ali Al-Qashouti, the chargé d'affaires at the Qatari embassy in Kabul, to discuss diplomatic ties between the two nations.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Muttaqi emphasized the importance of recent developments in Afghanistan’s relations with the United States and expressed gratitude to Qatar for its role in facilitating these engagements.

Zia Ahmad Takal, head of public relations at the ministry, highlighted the discussions, stating, "The Foreign Minister acknowledged the recent progress in relations with the US and appreciated Qatar’s continued support. He also emphasized the strengthening ties between Afghanistan and Qatar, expressing optimism for further cooperation."

Meanwhile, Suhail Shaheen, the Islamic Emirate’s ambassador to Qatar, praised Doha’s efforts in expanding Afghanistan’s international relations.

Qatar has been instrumental in hosting peace talks between the Islamic Emirate and the former Afghan government. The country also played a key role in negotiations between the Islamic Emirate and the United States, leading to the 2020 peace agreement signed in Doha.
